Anyone who knows me will tell you that when I set my mind on a concept or an idea, I'm loathe to let it go. Such has been the case with me for several years now when it comes to my desire to usher in a post-pc era.
Part of the reason that Brown Knows Media was founded was out of the recognition that a paradigm shift was in the making; one where consumers would access the internet more often from the mobile device never more than a few inches away from their grasp than from the clunky internet portal sitting on their desk.
The company Moovweb, after research on the migration from PC to mobile, has created an infographic that sheds some light on just how close we are (see below - and, yes, I love infographics).
Of particular note, at least to me, is the fact that 52% of retailers surveyed said they don't yet offer a mobile-optimized version of their website. That's a problem when you consider the study's additional findings. Among them:
This might be a good time to mention that Brown Knows Media will optimize your site for mobile devices for free when you purchase a mobile app for your small business. Why a mobile app, you ask? While mobile optimization is the least you should do, a mobile app - at least for a small business or non-profit with a passionate following - gives you the ability to push content to your customers via push notifications rather than solely depending on them to think of you next time they need your product or service.
Check out the infographic and see if it isn't an eye-opener for you. If you own a small business, are you in the minority that has a mobile-optimized website, or are you among the majority of businesses who don't?
If the infographic is difficult to read (didn't translate well from some reason), you can click it to view it on the Moovweb site.

- Mobile users are 5 times more likely to abandon their attempt to engage with your business if your site isn't optimized for their device.
- 79% say they will instead search for a competitor to complete the task when optimization is lacking.
